Charleston Stage Company

Audition Tips

Taylor Horst and Greg Morris in Measure for MeasureUnless specific notice is given otherwise, Charleston Stage Company auditions are by "cold-reading."  It is not necessary to prepare a monologue.  The director typically selects portions ("sides") of the script of the play for auditioners to read in combination with other auditioners.   Unless the director suggests otherwise, auditioning actors are free to move about and "act" the part.   Take time to listen and react to your acting partner.  The director may or may not ask you re-read a part with specific directions or suggested changes.

It is often useful, but not absolutely necessary, to have read the entire play in advance so that you will have a better appreciation for what your character is like.  Be prepared to indicate on the audition form what part or parts you are interested in, but the director may have you read for other parts as well.  The audition form will also ask you to indicate what dates you may be unavailable for rehearsals.

Please arrive promptly for auditions.
